Building Belonging | 2025
Building Belonging was a four-week zine-making workshop series led by Victory Nwabu-Ekeoma in collaboration with Superprojects. Held in March 2025, the programme focused on the theme of migration and engaged twenty students (aged 12–15) from Larkin Community College, Dublin.
The series invited students to explore the theme of migration by reflecting on “movement” and sharing personal or community migration stories — whether that meant moving counties, neighborhoods, or simply knowing someone who had relocated. Through storytelling, listening, and creativity, the programme fostered empathy and a sense of welcome for all, regardless of their personal background.
Workshop Overview:
Week 1 – Connecting and Listening
Students were introduced to the workshop through movement-based icebreakers, storytelling activities, and reflections on migration. They began exploring the zine-making process and conducted peer and family interviews to gather content.
Week 2 – Reflecting on Our Stories
Participants processed their collected material, reflecting on key insights and shaping their responses through stories, poems, or drawings. They selected formats and materials for their individual zines.
Weeks 3 & 4 – Creating and Sharing
Students finalized their zines, incorporating text and imagery into their designs. The series closed with a group reflection, encouraging students to consider what they’d learned, the emotions surfaced, and how their stories could contribute to more inclusive communities.
