Let Me Show You Who I Am | Workshop Series 2022 - 23
Superprojects in partnership with artist Alice Rekab and the collective Eireánn and I (Curators and cultural producers Beulah Ezeugo and Joselle Ntumba) devised a series of school workshops entitled Let Me Show You Who I Am. The event took place over the course of three days 8 - 10 November 2022 and involved 56 students of the 6th class of Adamstown Educate Together school in Dublin.
Guided by a group of artists, the students created symbols with their names, shared stories about their favourite belongings and learnt how to hip-hop dance. They also listened to spooky stories, made up a collective story with their schoolmates and explored the power of music and how it made them feel. During this time participants learnt how to tell their personal stories and share their identities through storytelling, performance, music and dance.
Discussing the programme the leading artists said “We are interested in working with children in 6th class because this is a time when young people develop a keen awareness of their identity that they carry through into their young adult life. We choose visual art, storytelling and performance as our media because of their shared importance within Irish and African cultures.” They continued “Building awareness and respect for the richness of African culture and amplifying shared cultural practices such as storytelling and performance to build a sense of community and dynamic hybridity within the classroom.”

A closing event was held in the school on 24 April 2023 to unveil two site specific artworks created by Alice Rekab in response to the workshop series. Adamstown Energy is a large scale collage and drawing piece printed on a large scale vinyl and a flag. The artworks were installed on the school stairwell window and across from it respectively and were made available to the school in digital format as well.
The new website aims to be an educational resource and includes images produced by contributors as well as documentation of the first workshops, specially commissioned essays, reading resources and artists info to act as guide/inspiration for future generations. The website and a postcard with a QR code for the project were launched in November 2023. Postcards were delivered to schools and arts organization across the nation to promote the project.
