Seanchaí Microforest is an initiative delivered through a partnership between Superprojects and the Fingal County Council’s Youth and Education Programme. It was conceived by artist Gareth Kennedy during the 2020 pandemic as a means to work with artists and young people outdoors. It is now a thriving habitat that serves as an outdoor learning and recreation space, addressing climate action at a local level while enhancing students' mental and physical well-being. The project was funded by the Arts Council of Ireland and the Fingal Arts Office.
Gareth Kennedy is a visual artist whose work explores the social role of the handmade in contemporary culture. Using anthropological approaches, he creates site-specific, community-based projects rooted in experimental material practices. He co-represented Ireland at the 2009 Venice Biennale with Sarah Browne as Kennedy Browne and was longlisted for the 2015 VISIBLE Award. Kennedy teaches Sculpture and Expanded Practice at NCAD, Dublin, where he leads the Studio+ FIELD module focused on experiential learning in a nearby brownfield site.
