Superprojects is pleased to announce an Open Call for its inaugural Curatorial Fellowship starting in 2023. Superprojects is seeking expressions of interest from curators from minority ethnic backgrounds and/or who have lived experience of displacement and/or are shaped by histories of intergenerational migration for a Curatorial Fellowship based at Clancy Quay Studios in Dublin and delivered in collaboration with SIRIUS in Cobh, County Cork and NCAD Access in Dublin across 2023 and 2024.
This award will support the recipient to curate culturally diverse programming for young people in 2024. Support includes participation in the Clancy Quay professional development programme, residencies at SIRIUS as well as a full time studio space at Clancy Quay studios, Dublin. It also offers opportunities for mentorship, critical exchange and feedback, and networking provided by Superprojects and the partnering organisations. The outcome of the programme will be the research and development of children’s programming working with schools in Dublin in collaboration with the Access Programme at NCAD.
Timeline, Activity and Support
Year 1 focuses on the research and development of a school’s programme aimed at primary and/or secondary school children to be realised in year 2. Superprojects will support the successful curator to work with a school or schools in Dublin City Centre, in collaboration with the Access department at the National College of Art and Design.
Year 1 also focuses on a residency and three sessions at SIRIUS exploring the theoretical and institutional setting of curation as a civic practice, working with Cobh-based organisations dedicated to youth service provision, towards the delivery of an event in year 2.
The purpose of the award is to support a curator active in the realm of cultural diversity to develop their own practice through infrastructural and contextual experimentation and implementation in dialogue with the programming strategies of the collaborating organisations and in line with the widely recognised need for the Irish visual arts sector to engage with underrepresented and/or underprivileged communities.
The award also provides the following:
- Desk space at Clancy Quay Studios over 2 years (2023 & 2024)
- Stipend of €9,000 (Year 1)
- Fee of €5,000 (Year 2)
- Mentoring with mentor of choice
- Administrative/production support from Superprojects
- Curatorial support from SIRIUS
- Travel fund of €500
- Materials fund €500
- Membership of NCAD Library
The expected work contribution/work time is 60 days (year 1) and 30 days (year 2), 10am – 5pm per day. The selected candidate may use the rest of the time for their personal work and research. This programme is delivered in partnership with Clancy Quay Studios, NCAD Access and SIRIUS and is funded by The Arts Council.
How To Apply
Superprojects is looking for applications demonstrating/outlining the following:
- Initial research subject or idea
- Initial idea or approach towards curating a school’s programme aimed at primary and/or secondary school children in 2024
- Professional track record in the visual arts (at least 2 years’ experience)
- Dedication to at least 1 day per week or the equivalent in year 1
- Interest in using the studio regularly
- Interest in working with children and young people
- Interest in progressive thinking around cultural diversity

Clancy Quay Studios is an initiative of the National College of Art and Design Access programme. In partnership with Kennedy Wilson, the Clancy Quay Studios offers a one-year studio residency to up to 5 recent graduates from NCAD.
